What's in EHP1 for NW CE 7.1?

I guess it's obsolete to say that but first of all CE is a product that contains parts of SAP's JavaEE stack. It more or less started as a designtime for developing composites (NetWeaver Developer Studio) plus runtime to run them (the JavaEE server).

Is CE the new version of NetWeaver?  Can I upgrade my NetWeaver 7.0 to CE

Currently not. The two products have a very big overlap in components and functionality, but CE has some things that NetWeaver never had (BPM for example) and vice versa (KM, Adapter Framework are only in NW).  It's currently intended to be the "SOA sidecar" next to other systems. This might change someday but as of EhP1 for CE 7.1 CE is officially not the same product line.

Installation options granularity in NetWeaver and CE

Probably the primary source of confusion we have is that is that CE tried to define a different (somewhat finer-grained) packaging than NetWeaver did. This brings you one step closer to installing exactly what you need on your system, but it's kind of funny if you're used to NetWeaver with its AS ABAP, AS Java, EPC, EP, DI, PI, BI and now see CE having JavaEE, Composition Platform, Guided Procedures, etc. ...

So who's who?

Here's a small listing of the CE installation options with an attempt to explain what's contained and whether it maps to something in NetWeaver main releases. It's not meant to be complete but I hope it gives some idea.

JavaEE is basically a leaner version of the AS Java. It has some components less, probably the most notable being the Adobe Document Services (which is a separate installation option in CE). You basically get a JavaEE server, the Services Registry, SLD, WebDynpro and the NetWeaver Administrator.
Composition Platform is probably the biggest one. In my understanding it's intended to pack the common parts needed for composites so it's pretty heterogeneous. It has the CAF, a very small Portal, the Universal Worklist, Visual Composer and some kits. If you're looking for mapping back to NW then CAF's in AS Java, the Portal and UWL in EPCore (but EPCore also had some more things inside, like the Guided Procedures), if I am correct VC is placed in the big EP.
Enterprise Services Repository - the same thing comes with PI 7.1.
Guided Procedures. This is part of EP Core from NetWeaver.
Composite Voice - the voice runtime and visual composer kit. Also shipped only with CE.
Adobe Document Service - In NetWeaver it's part of AS Java, for CE it must be separately selected.
NWDI - Yes, it's exactly NWDI : DTR + CBS + CMS.
Here are some that are normally not shipped in other products and are available only with CE:

Business Process Management - well the new BPM runtime from SAP (including BRM).
NWDS Update Site - That's in CE only again and serves for updating the IDEs in the landscape. Interesting thing is that it only runs on 32-bit Windows.
Differences between CE 7.1 and the EhP1 installation options:

SLD was not there in CE 7.10 JavaEE installation. It came with the ESR add-on.
ESR was a separate add-on installation.
GP was not a separate installation option but was part of the Composition Platform. In EhP1 it's an own installation option (probably because BPM provides quite an alternative and the user should be free to decide which one to use).
SDN preview installations

Now a word on what is in the SDN preview installations. Usually there are two flavours of the runtime for download:

the small one ("JavaEE only") : contains exactly the JavaEE mentioned above
the big one ("Composition Environment (contains Java EE)"): this one has the JavaEE + Composition Platform + BPM in EhP1 (Main difference with the 7.1 version is that it has BPM instead of Guided Procedures)
